Dear Friends,

As you may well know Lama Chime and our friends of Coorain are visiting the Karmapa nuns in Rumtek, Sikkim. We have been supporting and visiting the nuns for many years now. Our involvement with HH Karmapa Thaye Dorje has been steadily growing, especially through this support of the nuns.

The nun’s independance, health and welfare is a really appropriate way to show gratitude for the gift of the Teachings and of their fine Dharma practice. Many nuns are in the vanguard of the women’s movement and the liberation of women and girls is essential in the world. Last year Sikkim had a strong earthquake and the nunnery was damaged, HH has asked Lama Chime to find a builder in Rumtek and to get a cost estimate for repairing the earthquake damaged nunnery, so that it is waterproofed before the monsoon season. Our efforts have really helped there, HH Karmapa is sending his accountant and an architect – and is also raising money.

The project will begin on 22nd April. This call of course will go out to all Kagyu Centres worldwide but our Namgyal network should be well represented since we helped instigate this modern approach, and continue to keep the friendship and presence in Rumtek. Please respond if you are interested in helping with labour (3 to 4 weeks under the guidance of an overseer, and HH Karmapa’s monks, to restore the nunnery back to a safe and dry place) or funds.

The whole effort will happen quickly once started. We will do our best to find accommodation and to offer advise on travel. This is a wonderful opportunity for those in our network to become better acquainted and help the traditional holders of our lineage teachings.
