Local map
Directions:
From Nelson to Kohatu Junction:
Go down the highway towards Greymouth and Murchison (State Highway 6),  this will take you through Richmond and Wakefield and over the Spooner Range.  54 km from Nelson you will find a weighbridge, monument and rest area on the left, and a T-intersection on the right with the (now closed) Kohatu Hotel on the corner. (This is just before a long bridge over the Motueka River on State Highway 6.) Turn right off SH6, heading to Motueka and Tapawera

Now follow the directions from Kohatu Junction (below)

From Christchurch to Kohatu Junction:
Head to Murchison.  From Murchison, follow State Highway 6 for 74 km.  At that point you will cross the Motueka River on a long bridge and very shortly after that bridge is Kohatu Junction.  It is a T-intersection to the left, with the Kohatu Pub on the corner.  There you turn left off SH6 and head to Motueka and Tapawera

Now follow directions from Kohatu Junction (below).

From Picton to Kohatu Junction:
From Picton take State Highway 1 towards Blenheim (you can bypass the actual town of Blenheim, there will be signs), then head up the Wairau Valley on State Highway 63 towards St Arnaud, and turn right at Kerrs Hill Rd towards Tophouse. This road turns into Upper Motueka Valley Road, which then comes out on State Highway 6. Turn left and then take the next right turn (at Kohatu Junction) You will see the empty closed down hotel on the corner.

This way is 30 mins quicker than if you came to Kohatu Junction via Nelson. (State Highway 6). Both ways are fairly straightforward.

Now follow directions from Kohatu Junction (below).

From Kohatu Junction to the Wangapeka Retreat Centre:
Tapawera is 8km from Kohatu.  Drive through Tapawera and just on the other side is another T- intersection to the left over a long bridge (across the Motueka River). The corner is signposted, and if you look for the bridge on your left you can't miss the corner. Go over the bridge and head for Tadmor which is 8km from Tapawera.  Tadmor is no more than a Y-intersection with a few houses.  Turn right at the Y over the small  bridge which crosses the Tadmor River, heading towards the Wangapeka Track.

3 km further on you will come to the end of the tarseal. There is a junction where the gravel begins (Sherry River Road goes to the left but don't take it), but you just drive straight ahead. Keep driving along the gravel road.  Don't take any turnoffs. You will pass Hewletts Rd ~2km from end of tarseal, then ~2km later pass Jones’ Rd also on your right - just keep driving on the same road. (A landmark is a red drum with our name on it on the Jones’ Rd corner.)

7 km from the end of the tarseal (or ~3.5km from Jones' Road) you will find our big sign and gateway on your left. You can’t miss it. Come up the drive and park in the carpark - the Office and Main Hall are just a little further up the drive.

Welcome to the Wangapeka, we look forward to meeting you.
