Black and White at Wangapeka by Jo Leyland

A rat with its paws on my boot
A possum sticking his head in the doorway at night
A flash of lightning and roll of thunder,
on cue as we start the day of Black.
Two kereru gorging on the cherry tree leaves below the Whare Wānanga,
Two black little pigs nosing along the path below the labyrinth.
A hare, clapped its paws, ran back, ran out and down,
ran up to me and back and disappeared.
An early morning mouse in the kitchen sink.

Wondrous and curious!
