This development is specific yet universal, not vague or shallow. Whether viewed from the point of view of our day to day experience or from an analysis of the nature of existence, compassion is central. The Dalai Lama has said, “If you want others to be happy, practise compassion. If you yourself want to be happy, practise compassion.”
